RELIEF AT THE LIGHT HOUSE

The Light Beacon
September 2010

The earthquake has been an enormous shake up for us all, but out of it has come so much cooperation and cameraderie.

I was touched by Reg Garters’ column in The Press this week, when he said:

“It seems that being subjected to the same threat puts us all in the same direction, and even though the losses are not distributed evenly, people develop a huge empathy for others.

“So here in Canterbury, we continue to witness an extraordinary story of courage and self transcendence: ‘me’ was replaced with ‘we’.”

It is still a difficult time, and I send my love and best wishes to my family and friends, patients and colleagues who have been affected.

It is wonderful to see the daffodils and cherry blossom in full bloom, and new ducklings on the Avon. I met some Australian tourists in Hagley Park today, and they said how fortunate we are to live here.

Here at The Light House we have put in a number of services to help people after the earthquake.

Christchurch Relief Essence

Many people have been using the Christchurch Relief Essence since the earthquake, and have reported that they have found it to be very helpful in their recovery.

We would like this to reach as many people as possible, so we are selling it at cost at $10 a bottle, or 3 for $20, until the end of the month.

It can be used for adults and children, and for animals. You can also give it to plants, and to the Earth.

We will be selling this at the Body Mind Spirit Festival this weekend (Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September, 10am to 6pm at the Addington Events Centre). We have a stall downstairs near the entrance, just past She Chocolate.

I will be giving a Talk on the Christchurch Flower Essences on Saturday 16 October at 10am at The Light House. There is no charge for this, but to register please email wisbell@thelighthouse.co.nz.

Meditations

At 6pm on Mondays and Thursdays we are playing a meditation by Orin, on the topics of Finding Inner Peace, and Balance and Stability.

You don’t need to have done meditation before, and there is no charge.

A small group is meditating using Orin’s Divine Will and Divine Self journeys on Tuesdays at 6pm. Please let me know if you would like to join this group.

Next year there will be classes on the Awakening Your Light Body Course, and Orin’s Divine Will Courses (Intuition, Illumination and Inspiration).

Quiet Room

Our meditation room is open for people to come and sit in, and listen to relaxing music.

This is a space where you can come to centre and ground yourself.

There are books to browse, and a folder of information about coping after a disaster.

Many people will experience symptoms of psychological distress after the recent earthquake and aftershocks. This is part of a normal and healthy stress response to a traumatic event.

‘Debriefing’ (making people go over the events in graphic detail) was once a popular technique but it is not used now as it can do more harm than good.

Consultations

In the practice it is business as usual, and I can see you for a chat, a remedy, and some personalised flower essences.

GP funding has changed for the month of September, so Casual (Not Enrolled) patients will be charged the same as Enrolled patients ($55).
